School/Firehouse/Church/ Headquarters

547 Schiller Avenue
This building was constructed as the Rusling School in 1895 by James and William Rusling who were principals in the Broad Street Land Association. After two years the school age population outgrew the space, a new school was constructed in the area, and the Rusling brothers sold the school building to Rusling Hose Company in November 1897. In April 1913, the property was sold to the Broad Street Park Benefit Society, continued to be used as the firehouse, and was purchased by the Trustees of the Cathedral Foundation, Diocese of New Jersey in February 1925. The property changed hands again in 1936 when it was sold to the Pilgim Holiness Church. The Trenton Detachment, Marine Corps League, acquired the building in 1956 and it is their headquarters to this day.
