Maurice "Mo" Cunningham

FROM L TO R:  ERIC RODIN, RAY RAMBIN,  AND MO CUNNINGHAM, 1949 TRENTON GIANTS (DUNN FIELD)
COLLECTION OF TRENTON CITY MUSEUM

Maurice "Mo" Cunningham was a native Iowan and Schiller Avenue neighbor.  He was a power-hitting outfielder for the Trenton Giants, a New York Giants farm team from 1946 to 1950, and played at Dunn Field at the Brunswick Circle with Willie Mays.  Mo was a good man with a friendly smile and greeting for everyone.

  1. Jim, Just ran across this. Like you am a fan of Willie Mays and the 1950 Trenton Giants which culminated in a full length article about Willie I wrote ("Willie's Wonder Year's in Sports History Magazine March, 1989) and a chapter in the book "The 'Ol Ballgame"...had a wonderful time interviewing the late Mo Cunningham (in 1972!) and later Eric Rodin (best steak dinner I ever had was at his home in August, 1980) plus so many others. Still in touch with Trenton through Hamilton Twp's Jim Miller auctions...you may well know Jim. Bill Klink, Sun City, AZ (billklinkafba5star@cox.net)

  2. I met Mo Cunningham in the late 1960s early 1970s when I was a member of the VFW 3525 team in the Senior Babe Ruth League. Hank Clinton was the manager and Bob Cash was the coach. Mo would come to our practices in the Spring. I'm very grateful that the league existed so that I could pitch and play baseball until I was 18. I should have asked Mo for more instruction on how to hit a baseball. My father, Howard J. Tedder, never missed a baseball game that I played in from when I was 9 years old on Evans Pharmacy in 1962. He was my biggest supporter. I am John H. Tedder. johnhtedder@gmail.com
